Rosenborg Football Club
The football club Rosenborg Ballklub was founded in 1917 and is the pride of Trondheim. The home ground is Lerkendal Stadium, a modern and impressive stadium just south of the city centre. The stadium has a capacity of 21,000 spectators and is one of Norway’s most modern sports stadiums. Scandic Hotel Lerkendal is located right next to Lerkendal Stadium.
Rosenborg is Norway’s most winning team of all time with 26 league championships and “The Double” 10 times (the league championships + the cup). Rosenborg have participated in the Champions League nine times, making RBK one of the most participating teams in the UEFA Champions League. In 1996, the team reached the quarterfinals after beating Italian giant AC Milan 2–1 at their home ground, the San Siro.
