MARITIME MUSEUM

Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum

Trondheim Maritime Museum

Visit Trondhjem’s Maritime Museum right by the Nidelva, and experience the history of Trondheim’s trading traditions from the 17th century until today. The museum offers guided tours, lectures and events to convey Trondheim’s proud maritime history.

Trondhjem’s Maritime Museum is suitable for small and large. On the ground floor we have made an exhibition about the transition from sail to steam, and on the second floor the theme is sailing ship time and Trondheim as a maritime city. The exhibitions are based on the museum’s artefacts and photographic material, where the themes on the one hand are linked to seafaring life, and on the other hand to Trondheim as a maritime city.
The exhibition on the second floor is a child-friendly exhibition about the sailing ship era. Here is a play and learning facility that mimics the deck of a sailing ship. Help the seasick Skipsrotta Sivert to tie knots, steer the ship and find the secret room!
A self-produced film about life on the school ship Tordenskiold is shown daily. It tells about how young people in the period 1900 – 1940 were educated for maritime working life. Hear the story of one of those who enlisted in 1934.

The Maritime Museum is also responsible for the historic steamship SDS Hansteen from 1866.
