The Future Is_____.
The Future is_____ is Trondheim Art Museum’s contribution to the national celebration of 50 years since the Penal Code’s ban on sexual acts between men (section 213) was lifted. An important celebration for tolerance and free love, about being who you want and loving who you want.
The words in clause 213 were about sex and not about love, but can one distinguish one from the other? Historical dichotomies between the bodily and the sensual, the rational and the non-rational, the intellectual and the spiritual represent binary understandings of ourselves and the world around us. In the exhibition The Future is_____, the science fiction genre is used to discuss the possibility that in fifty years we can live in a society where gender and identity are liberated from the binary division. The exhibition activates the viewer’s sensory apparatus with immersive installations that break with established narratives and knowledge paradigms, and invites free thinking that the future is _.
