Warming Huts

Find a Cozy Pit Stop

Scattered throughout the wooded hills of Bymarka in Trondheim, you will find several cozy warming huts which make excellent pit stops whilst on your outdoor adventure.

Skistua

Skistua is one of the most popular and one of the more accessible warming huts in Trondheim. Bus number 26 stops right outside. Skistua is perfectly located by the foot of the Gråkallen mountain, and is a great start and end point for hikes, skiing and frolicking in the woods, all year around.

Wed: 12 pm – 7 pm
Thu – Fri: 12 pm – 3 pm
Sat – Sun: 11 am – 5 pm


Grønlia

Grønlia is a popular destination for hikers and skiers alike. From the hut you have a gorgeous view of the Skjellbreia lake. The cozy hut serves an impressive array of baked goods, as well as lunch, warm and cold drinks. The hut has modern toilet facilities including changing rooms for babies, which makes Grønlia a perfect destination for taking your littlest ones for a stroll.

Rønningen

Rønningen is a natural hub in Bymarka. It is the perfect spot to enjoy the surrounding nature on one of the many benches outside, or you can warm up inside. Start your hike or ski from Skogly, Granåsen or Smistad. The gravel road from Smistad means Rønningen is both wheelchair and stroller accessible, even in winter months.

Elgsethytta

Elgsethytta is one of the most popular and busy huts in Bymarka. Park your car at Henriksåsen or Skistua, and embark on the 3,5 km gravel road leading to Elgsethytta. The road is stroller accessible except in winter when the road is turned into ski trails.

Lavollen

Lavollen is an idylic farm in the woods of Bymarka. Park your car nearby and start your outdoor adventure. Lavollen is a perfect starting point for long and short hikes in summer and fall, and cross country skiing in the winter. Tusseløypa, an adventure area in the woods with trolls and other creatures for children, is located approximately 200 meters from the farm.

The cafe is open on weekends, and the occasional weekday. Check current opening hours here.


Estenstadhytta

In Strindamarka you find the large and popular Estenstadhytta. Divided between three large rooms, the hut has a seating capacity of 170 indoors. Outside you can enjoy the fresh air and the surrounding nature while enjoying a cup of coffee, some freshly baked goods, lunch or dinner. Estenstadhytta is easiest reached from the Bekken parking area. On the way to the hut, stop by the spectacular Burmaklippen.

Sparebank 1-hytta

Strategically located in Granåsen, with it’s world famous ski-jump and excellent recreational facilities nearby, Sparebank 1-hytta is ideal for a post- hike or -ski snack. The café is open five days a week and offers hot and cold drinks, waffles and other baked goods. The hut is baby- and kid-friendly and has baby changing rooms and chairs for kids. There is parking right outside and hiking trails at the doorstep in the summer. In winter, regularly maintained ski trails which are lit up at night make the area perfect for wintertime exercise.

Damhaugen

One of the hidden gems of Bymarka is Damhaugen. Park your car by Trolla daycare center or in Tømmerdalen. From January until Easter you can enjoy fresh waffles and warm and cold drinks at Damhaugen every weekend.
