THE BURMA ROCK

Burmaklippen

Facing your Fears

The roughly 50m tall cliff or “Mini Trolltunga” has been a well-kept secret until recently. Although Burmaklippen does not have huge dimensions, or a steep drop, it can still incite your fear of heights. The valley beneath the cliff is called the “Burma Valley”. The name was born during the construction of the road, Estenstadvegen, when the war in Burma was the major topic of discussion among the construction workers. The cliff overlooks Dragvoll and Byåsen.

A visit to the Burma Rock is nice to combine with a longer trip in Estenstadmarka.

Directions

You can take bus nr. 3 in direction of Lohove and get off at the Estenstadvegen stop. From there you walk for 17 min on paved road to Bekken parking lot. From the parking lot we follow the “Akebakken” (the path to the left of the road) towards Estenstadhytta approx. 70 meters before we turn left through a portal marked “skogsti”. (forest path). After about 150 meters the path divides and we turn left. We follow this trail about 500 meters in rising terrain. Just when the path makes a sharp turn to the right and up a small creek, you’ll take a slightly secluded path to the left which leads about 50 meters down to the Burma Rock

ACCESSIBILITY

Not suitable for strollers / wheelchair

NB! Be careful on the cliff, it slopes slightly downhill and can be dangerous to walk on when it is damp and slippery.
