THE FIVE STAR
Britannia Hotel
LUXURY IN EVERY DETAIL
A House of Many Doors
“Long considered one of the most prestigious hotels in Scandinavia, the Britannia Hotel in Trondheim, Norway, recently reclaimed its place as one of Europe’s premier accommodations after a three-year, multimillion-dollar renovation.”
— Fortune Magazine
Britannia Hotel is a house of many doors. A network of experiences to be discovered and opportunities to explore. Open one, open many. Come for a day… stay for a night.
First opened in 1870 to welcome aristocratic Britons, who came to fish the region’s legendary salmon rivers, Trondheim’s white-domed Britannia Hotel reopened in April 2019 after a multi-year $160 million-dollar renovation. Now celebrating 150 years of luxury hospitality, Britannia has six restaurants & bars, including Speilsalen, Christopher Davidsen’s (Bocuse d’Or 2017) first signature restaurant.
Guests can be collected from the airport in the hotel’s very own electric London Black Cab, and may choose to stay in the Tower Suite, a 220m² penthouse built into the aforementioned dome, complete with a golden bathtub, grand piano and private wine cellar. All rooms in the hotel have beds by Hästens and bathrooms clad in Carrara marble. Indulge in the 1,400m² spa with an indoor pool, and dive into the à la carte breakfast in the iconic palm court, Palmehaven. Sip on Britannia’s own exclusive Champagne in Vinbaren, a living wine cellar, where you can try hundreds of vintage wines by the glass, in a room lined by 10,000 bottles.

INTERVIEW
When Herbert Met Odd
Odd Reitan, the owner of Britannia Hotel, shares his childhood dream and discusses what it means to re-open the doors.
Herbert: This hotel is a great gift for the city, the region and our country. Just imagine, that a small city like Trondheim will have such a fantastic hotel, one that will raise the profile of the city internationally. What are your thoughts about Britannia Hotel’s reopening?
Odd: The best thing about this is that I don’t have a background in hotels, though I have stayed in many. Every time I’ve discussed hotels and my experiences at them, my thoughts have always drifted towards Britannia. Everything starts with a vision, daring to dream big and committing to it. People might have thought that some of my initial ideas throughout the years have been a bit crazy at first. People who know me know that if I joke about something, there is always some seriousness behind it. I’ve waited for the day to welcome guests to Britannia Hotel as an owner since I was 14, it feels great to be able to do this and to accomplish and fulfill the dream in 2019.
